Summing and changing units - Bytes to MB..

Hi 

My firewalls syslogs send through the number of recieved and sent data in bytes.

If I sum this, how can I convert it to MB/GB?  (Cause see 100MB is far better than 100000000) biggrin

Hi Kelv1n,
 
You'll need to use synthetic fields - such as described here  and here. 

If you have a field labelled MB for example, create a synthetic field with the following expression - 

mvel:MB/1000 

Once you have created this field, it will be displayed for all entries, you can then sum this field instead of the MB field

Hi Istair

Thanks again, works great. I did find it the numbers were showing to several decimal places, and sometimes as float numbers. So I've started using Groovy to round them off too 2 decimal points, found this forum post quite informative - logscape.activeboard.com/t59925180/useful-groovy-for-synthetic-fields/.
